Ben Hueso

He served in various important roles in the State Legislature:

• Chairman of Veterans Affairs Committee,

• Chairman of the Labor Committee,

• Chairman of Assembly Water Parks and Wildlife Committee

• Member of the California Assembly Rules Committee

• Member of California Assembly Local Government Committee

• Member of the California Senate Natural Resources Committee

• Member of the California Senate Insurance Committee

• Member of California Senate Governmental Organization Committee

• Member of the California Senate Banking and Financial Institutions Committee

He also produced an extensive body of legislation regarding Tijuana River Valley restoration, Salton Sea restoration, public health, public safety, education, economic development, housing, and environmental-friendly lithium extraction in the border region

Hueso holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.  He also studied abroad at the University of Odessa in Ukraine and completed post-graduate degree work in Community and Economic Development at San Diego State University.

Hueso has an Economic Development, Energy, Telecommunications, and Water emphasis.

 

 

 

 

Ben Hueso is a former State Legislator with the State of California having served as an Assemblymember from 2010 to 2013 and State Senator from 2013 to 2022.

He held his first elected position as San Diego City Councilmember for the eighth District from 2006-2010.  During his tenure, he was appointed Council President from 2008-2010. He also served as Commissioner for the California Coastal Commission representing the South Coast of California.

In addition, he served as a board member for San Diego’s Association of Governments, the Board of Directors of the California League of Cities, The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System Board of Directors, and the City of Tijuana’s Binational Affairs Committee.  He also worked for the City of San Diego’s Community and Economic Development Department and for the Redevelopment Agency.

While in the State Legislature, Ben Hueso served as Chairman of the State Assembly Select Committee of California/Mexico Binational Affairs, and The Senate Select Committee on California/Mexico Cooperation.  He was the Senate Energy, Utilities, and Telecommunications Committee Chairman for eight consecutive years. He was also elected Chairman of the California Legislative Latino Caucus. He provided oversight to the Public Utilities Commission, the Office of Ratepayer Advocates, and all California State Agencies and Departments through his roles.
